About Us

Naillon Farm and Feed Company uses a regenerative and holistic approach to farming. Pasture based herds allow the animals to graze 24/7 and naturally fertilize the fields. Rotational grazing, where cows graze an area intensely for a short time and then are moved to a different area, not only allows for optimum growth and fertilization but has the added benefit of sequestering carbon and storing it in the leaves and roots of the plant. This method of farming allows us to make a real impact on improving the land we farm, the quality of the beef we raise and our carbon footprint. Manure spread on fields used for hay and haylage gives them the benefit of the natural fertilizer and allows us to put up premium quality feed without the use of chemicals. Our holistic approach also continues to our animals. We take a hands off approach and allow the moms to do what they do best. They calve in the field and care for their babies without interference from us. We maintain a closed herd which greatly eliminates viruses and other issues that could impact herd health. Because of this we are ablet to forego much of the treatments and vaccinations that would be given in larger herds and feedlot operations and produce premium products starting with the feed we make all the way to the beef we harvest.

Preston's love of farming began when he was a young kid helping his grandpa put up hay. He has fond memories of his grandpa putting him in the driver's seat of the hay truck well before he could reach the pedals. When Preston was 14 he went to work for a rancher, Jack Born, in the beautiful Boistfort Valley and shortly after brought his first calf home in a burlap sack after the mom wouldn't care for it. Twenty years later that herd of 1 turned into a couple hundred and Preston left his position in the operator's union and began farming full time. His background as a mechanic allows him to repair and maintain the fleet of equipment needed for making hay. He runs all aspects of the farm from cleaning barns, tagging and banding calves, spreading manure, and daily feedings herd checks. He can be found in the fields making hay and haylage from April -October. Preston and Rachel not only make all of the hay for their own herds but also provide custom hay services to other farmers and ranchers in the community.

Rachel grew up on a dairy farm in Boistfort Valley. Her earliest memories are going out to visit her mom in the milk parlor and watching her dad feed cows on the farm where she grew up. Seeing her parents start their day at 4 am and not finish until 6 or 7 pm instilled a strong work ethic that has served her well. When Rachel isn't home with the Naillon kids she is with Preston feeding cows, putting up feed or any one of the odds and ends that are required to make a farm run smoothly as well as managing all the deliveries for the growing beef operation. She has recently stepped in to the roll as marketing director and sales manager as the farm expands to offer online meat sales. Preston and Rachel were recently offered the lease on the original dairy farm in Boistfort and are hard at work getting it ready to serve as the new storage facility and packing center.
